Historique :	Tableau proche du style de Pierre Parrocel. Ce tableau pourrait être attribué au peintre Pierre Parrocel ou à un de ses contemporains. Ce peintre originaire d'Avignon, participa à la décoration de plusieurs églises de cette ville souvent en collaboration avec Nicolas Mignard. L'ordre des Trinitaires était présent à St-Rémy. Il y avait notamment une chapelle, d'où pourrait provenir ce tableau.

Matériaux :	toile (support) : peinture à l'huile;bois (cadre) : peint, doré
Précision sur_l'état :	Tableau très abimé. Conservé sur le même mur que le tableau de Saint Roch et de Jésus apaisant la tempête, il a subit les mêmes dommages.

Précision_sur la representation :	Le 28 janvier 1193, lors de sa 1ère messe, Jean de Matha voit le Christ, dans une apparition, libérant 2 captifs, un noir et un blanc et décide de se consacrer à la libération des prisonniers. Il est le fondateur de l'ordre des Trinitaires au 12e s.
