Historique :	Ce bas-relief daté de 1892 est l'oeuvre du sculpteur Louis-Félix Chabaud (1824-1902), élève de Pradier. Il a été remonté par les descendants de l'artiste dans la nouvelle église construite en 1911 suite à la destruction de l'ancienne église en 1909. Il s'agit d'une commande du curé de Venelle pour les fonts baptismaux. La sculpture témoigne du goût patriotique de l'époque et de l'intérêt porté aux dernières découvertes archéologiques (casque de Clovis...). Plusieurs personnes proches du peintre ont posé pour la scène.
